(AKA "Sly Stone") |
---
As many folks are aware, Sly has kept an incredibly low profile in the last few years. The last release of new, original material from Sly was a song with The 13CATS in 1991 on their CD March of the 13CATS. The last album to bear his name as artist was the 1994 CD Precious Stone: In the Studio with Sly Stone, but features no material that appears to have been recorded after 1965.

Now rumors are flying about a new release from Sly on the Avenue Records label. Fans have written saying they have heard new material from Sly, even citing names of songs, such as "Sleeping Pill" and "Coming Back for More," reporting that the songs were bad (meaning good).
Sly learned about this web site from a mutual friend in late 1996. Apparently, he seemed slightly stunned that someone of my age (I am 32 years his junior) would take such an interest in his music. On February 8, 1997, Sly Stone called me on the telephone at around 5 AM. We have been in touch ever since, and I can confirm based on this correspondance that he is not only a genius, but an extraordinary human being who can be at times profound, jovial, warm, intimidating and inspiring. I was also blessed with the opportunity to meet Sly; you can read about my trip in an article I wrote specifically for this web site.
Apparently he does not like to give interviews, as writers have consistently misquoted him in the past. He also feels since he does not have an album out that there is no reason for him to be in the spotlight. Again, when he is ready and has something to say, we will all hear it.
