| Jim Strassburg contributed drums to "High On You," arguably Sly's last album in which he posessed full creative control over songwriting and production. Jim played drums on the title track, "Who Do You Love?" "My World," "So Good To Me," and "Greed" on which both he and Sly shared drum responsibilities. Sly had commended Jim on his drumming ability while he was a part of "Asylum," a group which opened for Sly & the Family Stone on many occasions. A mutual friend told Sly that Jim was looking for a new gig and, as it turned out that Sly was auditioning drummers, he asked that Jim come by The Record Plant in Sausalito for an audition. Jim describes that story, and several others, in a short article he wrote exclusively for this website. |
| Jim is a longtime veteran of the music industry, having performed with a list of musicians which extends a mile, including: Billy Preston, Quincy Jones, Martha Reeves, Pee-Wee Ellis, Jimmy Cobb with Gregory Hines and Freddie Hubbard, David Liebman, The Brecker Bros. and Charlie Hayden. He now co-owns a music production company "SGI" based in Florida, which is close to finalizing a contract for a young band they found in the Keys. "We signed and released artists on Polydor and Columbia records...right now I am looking for any great bands in the South that have record potential-from alternative to latin-afro-cuban funk etc." if you fit the bill, drop Jim a line! In the meantime, Jim says he is still shedding for "that gig in the sky." |
