Greg "Handfeet" Errico

Greg Errico, the man whose funky drums drove Sly & the Family Stone back in the day, is still kickin' it and performs regularly in the Bay Area. If you are nearby you must see Greg's skillz live!

Lately Greg has been recording a new and interesting Bay Area group called "Many Faces" (formerly One Positive Nation). This outfit, which includes several former members of the early 70's Latin/rock group "Malo," sports a funky world music vibe which incorporates reggae, Latin, salsa, and a strong dose of soul. George Santana (brother of Carlos) is also involved with the project, and in fact on one of the group's recently recorded songs George plays a guitar solo which he says is the best he's ever done! They have been signed to release singles through ArtistOne, an Internet-based label/web site. You can now download the group's first single Who's Drinking the Wine on MP3 format free of charge!

Greg has also been quite involved with organizing and performing with a new international drumming collective called World Beat which features Greg, Narada Michael Walden, Gary Duncan, and drummers from a variety of musical backgrounds. Stay tuned for information about their new CD...

Greg is really excited about his first drum instructional video "Funkdamentals" which is in production at the moment. It is produced and directed by John Seda and Greg in conjunction with Audex. According to Greg, they labored to make sure that, unlike most instructional videos, the sound quality will be The Bomb! In the video, Greg talks about his personal history, how he started playing drums, how he joined Sly & the Family Stone, and runs through funk feels and his classic beats song-by-song. The video should be completed within next two months and will be geared for drummers of all levels of skill, from beginners to pros. Greg tells me that a young rapper uses music they recorded for the video's theme and kicks rhymes about Greg, Sly & the Family Stone lyrics and drops names of hip-hop groups who has sampled his drum beats.

Additionally, Greg has been a regular member of Gary Duncan's Quicksilver Messgenger Service for the past few years, recording and performing with them throughout the west coast of California. Check out their page at MP3.com where you can download their funky audio for free! This summer they're performing a series of East Coast dates: July 27th at The Bottom Line in New York City, July 29th at the Westbury Music Fair (with Starship) in Westbury, Rhode Island, and July 30th at the Middle East in Cambridge, MA.
