Love City #5: Message From Butch, Greg Married

Hey Folks!

It's the e-mail you've been waiting for all week (I hope ... :) !

First I'd like to give props to SHIFT Magazine for mentioning me and the Sly & the Family Stone Web Site on Page 63 of their July issue. They praise the web site, though I wonder if I should take the phrase "obsessively detailed" as a compliment or ... ? :) Thanks for the publicity!

AND: DON'T FORGET (!!!!!) to set your VCR's folks: Graham Central Station's Aruba performance will be aired on HBO on July 20th, at 10PM EST/PT. This concert features 4 Sly & the Family Stone members: Larry, Rose, Cynthia & Jerry and incredible performances of both GCS and Sly material. From what I hear you do not want to miss this one!

Additions to the Sly & the Family Stone Home Page:

BASS TABLATURE!BASS TABLATURE!BASS TABLATURE!BASS TABLATURE!BASS TABLATURE!

Keep that bass tablature coming! [email protected] sent me a nice transcription of one of the most famous basslines in the history of American pop music, Larry Graham's bassline for "Thank You." That's up at The Notes section of the Sly & the Family Stone web site. Hey, maybe some guitar tab for Freddie's masterful licks?

ALSO: Some great and HIGHLY RARE photos of Sly & the Family Stone ca. 1969 have been uploaded to the site, thanks to Steve Paley. My favorite of these is a black & white panorama of the stage during a Sly & the Family Stone concert where everyone is getting down in full view:

Graham Central Station:

Here's a personal message to all y'all from original GCS member Robert "Butch" Sam:

"Thank you for your support. We are going to do several exciting projects in 1997. We also thank you for supporting us in Japan and Aruba, it was a blast! We are going out on a cross country tour hosted by Sinbad to several cities near you. This tour not only includes Graham Central Station, but also more of your favorite 70's bands including Earth Wind and Fire, The Emotions, and Denise Williams. So check your local radio stations and record stores. Once again, thanks for your support. Looking forward to seeing you all this summer! I would also love to hear from you at this e-mail address: [email protected].

Sincerely

Robert "Butch" Sam
Keyboardist (Graham Central Station)"
