Hey Folks! Sorry about no mailing last week, my girlfriend and I took a mini-vacation. In regards to THE FUNK, there are lots of things brewing on the GCS front, some of which you'll read about in this mailing. Sly & the Family Stone Home Page: For those of you who don't know about this, when Sly & the Family Stone toured in 1969, small books of photographs and drawings of the group were sold at their concerts. Steve Paley, who took most of the photos featured in the book, was kind enough to donate his copy of the book to the web site. Keep your eye on the "Images" pages for photos from this book, and for now check the albums listed in the discography -- the icons for group members are now "rocks" which feature drawings of the group members. Collect them all, trade them with your friends! :) For a quick look click on http://www.slyfamstone.com/disc_list.html. Graham Central Station Home Page: First of all, I don't usually like to pat myself on the back, but it seems like the GCS web site is continuing to have an important influence on the promotion of the group. Here's an excerpt from an e-mail message I received from another GCS fan, the FunkMaster himself, Sinbad ([email protected]): "Jon, Larry Graham turned out my soul music festival this year. I have you to thank for that. I was in San Fran attending the MacWorld convention there. I went to the Larry Graham website, which I had found during one of my 4 AM "let me see what is out there" searches. I found his performing schedule and was shocked to see that he would be perfroming at Yoshi's in Oakland that very evening. I jumped into my rental car and went to the club and had a religious experience with Larry Graham. They turned the place out. He did a Sly medley that left me on the floor. My two favorite groups of all time are Earth Wind and Fire and Larry Graham and Graham Central Station. Thank you for the website and, as Larry would say it, THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME BE MYSELF---AGAIN."Aw, shucks. Anyway, Larry and GCS are continuing with Sinbad as he tours the US with GCS, Earth Wind & Fire and Denise Williams. Read on for the latest tour dates. Greg Errico: Greg Errico's current band with Gary Duncan, Quicksilver, will be headlining the Fourth of July concert at the main stage of San Francisco's Aquatic Park. Their set will begin at around 7:30-8:30 p.m and they will play until the fireworks. Also, keep an eye out for that instructional video which also features Larry Graham and Robert "Butch" Sam! As always, you can send an e-mail to Greg at [email protected]. Cynthia Robinson: Cynthia is playing trumpet again with a local band called "Burgundy Express," an 8-piece band of talented Sacramento, CA musicians. Please write to [email protected] to obtain their gig schedule. Here is a listing of current concert dates: July 4th CAL EXPO SACRAMENTO July 18,19 HOT-N-SPICY OLD SACRAMENTOCynthia will also join Larry Graham and Graham Central Station on performances in California, which brings us to .....
